Support for what you’re going through

You might be looking for help with a particular difficulty, or trying to understand why life feels harder than it used to. I offer individual counselling and psychotherapy for people affected by anxiety, OCD, trauma and other experiences that are affecting their daily lives. We can talk about what is happening and consider what support would be useful to you.

When anxiety takes up too much of your day

Anxiety may be the reason you are finding certain situations difficult, putting things off or struggling to feel at ease. You may spend a great deal of time worrying, even when other people cannot see what is troubling you.

Perhaps you have become used to working around these feelings. You avoid certain places, prepare for every possible outcome or find it hard to switch off. You may be tired of how much time and attention it all takes.

My practice focuses on anxiety disorders, with particular expertise in obsessive compulsive disorder, known as OCD.

Support with OCD

You may be experiencing unwanted thoughts, doubts or urges, alongside repeated actions or mental routines that feel difficult to resist. It can be hard to explain these experiences, particularly when the thoughts feel at odds with who you are.
You can contact me to discuss:

  • Intrusive thoughts and recurring doubts
  • Repeated checking, reassurance seeking or mental routines
  • Situations you avoid because of anxiety or OCD
  • The effect these experiences have on work, relationships and everyday life

My approach draws on therapies including cognitive behavioural therapy and exposure and response prevention. We can discuss whether these approaches are relevant to your needs and what working together would involve.

Support with experiences that still affect you

You may be seeking help with something that happened recently, experiences from earlier in life or a history that is difficult to put into words.

Perhaps you notice its effects in your relationships, how you feel about yourself or how you respond to certain situations. You may understand the connection clearly, or feel unsure why some things bring such strong reactions.

I have extensive experience working with PTSD and complex trauma, including experiences of:

  • Abandonment
  • Verbal and emotional abuse
  • Physical abuse
  • Sexual abuse
  • A specific distressing event

We can consider what is affecting you now, what support you have and what you would like help with. My practice draws on several therapeutic approaches, including EMDR.

Your first enquiry does not need to include a detailed account of what happened. It is enough to say that you are looking for support with a difficult experience.

Support with experiences that still affect you

Making room for your needs and experiences

Being neurodivergent may be part of the picture you want to explore in therapy. You might be trying to understand your needs, explain them to others or make sense of experiences in which you felt misunderstood.

My work takes account of autism, ADHD and specific learning difficulties alongside concerns such as anxiety, trauma, depression and loss.

We can talk about the demands you face, how you experience relationships and any communication preferences that matter to you. You can also tell me about previous experiences of support, including anything that helped or made it harder to take part.

The focus is on understanding your experience and the difficulties you would like support with. We can discuss what you need from our conversations and review how the work feels as we go.

Support through other difficult parts of life

Depression and low mood

You may be feeling flat, disconnected or less interested in things that once mattered to you. Everyday responsibilities may take more effort, and explaining how you feel can be difficult.

We can talk about what life is like at the moment, what has changed and what you would like help understanding. You do not need a clear explanation for your feelings before making contact.

Addiction

You may be concerned about a pattern of behaviour or substance use and the place it has taken in your life. There may be consequences you want to address, alongside uncertainty about change.

We can discuss what is happening, what you are seeking support with and whether my practice is suitable for your needs. Where other support is needed, that can form part of our conversation.

Loss and bereavement

Loss can affect your relationships, daily routines and sense of what comes next. You may want to talk about someone who has died, a relationship that has ended or another change that has left you struggling.

There may be feelings you find difficult to share with people around you. Therapy offers time to talk about your experience, what you miss and what life is like now.

We can begin with what matters most to you

You may recognise yourself in several parts of this page. Anxiety, grief, trauma and other experiences can overlap, and you do not have to separate everything before we speak.

I work as an integrative therapist, drawing on different approaches according to the needs we discuss. Our conversations can help us agree where to begin and what you hope to gain from therapy.

We can also consider any support you have received before. What felt useful? What was difficult? Is there something you would like to approach differently this time?

Sessions are predominantly online. Before starting, we can discuss your circumstances, practical arrangements and whether working together is a suitable option.
